Pfaff 1200 Series Service and Rebuilds
The Pfaff Model 1222 is an old favorite of many sewers. If you are an avid sewer you probably know this machine. This particular machine dates to 1973 and is in very good condition overall.

As you can see from the photos, our machines are disassembled, cleaned and inspected before any machine is put out for resale or repaired for a customer.

Rebuilding this machine will involve some updating of parts and factory fixes, such as the Master dial issue. This is a common malady which can show symptoms such as the following: Machine won't sew straight (will not come out of zig zag, or stitch length is not indexed properly.) The only fix for this problem is to drill and pin the master dial to hold it secure and fast. This is a permanant fix to this problem.
Not all jobs are the same when rebuilding the 1222 machines. On this machine we will be replacing parts thay may not be worn or have failed, but have been improved through re-tooling. Also, things that have been known to fail such as the presser bar lifter, drive belts, isolation dampers or buffers, as well as bobbin winder rings will be replaced.
We also will remove the outer light wire covering which is prone to become viscous and very sticky and often times will "gum" things up. (We have seen this sticky substance travel even to the motor of thse machines.)
This machine will also have the "new style" circuit board and foot control as this is the most desirable for the 1200 series machines.
Sadly, many, if not most parts are no longer available for these machines. Some of the obsolete parts are now produced by aftermarket parts suppliers. In our work, we will use new, genuine replacement parts whenever possible and will use salvaged or used genuine parts as a second option, and aftermarket parts as a last choice.
You can spend a lot of money on good parts, however the real value in investing in your 1222 rebuild is to have a machine that runs as smooth and quiet as this machine was designed. With the cost of labor as high as it is today, we feel that it is well worth the investment to do an extensive job one time rather than have "quick fixes" or "bandaids" done many times. We have seen times when these shortcuts can lead to damage where if a more intrusive jobe were done in the first place the life and performance of the machine would have been raised to an optimum level.
